KeePass Password Safe (journey into)

Searching on how to implement plug-ins for Safari, Chrome & Firefox (for mobile) for the Digital Wallet app for iOS (for a project here at current full time work at iDigital) I stumbled into KeePass. The plug-ins should provide auto fill functionality for websites in Chrome, Firefox and Safari (this is based from the 1Password app)

The great thing about KeePass is it's open source and it has available extension for Auto Form Fill for Chrome and Firefox. and the firefox extension is also open sourced.

Macintosh Finder: Reasons for Slow Operation

I experienced very slow finder once in a while in the Mac Air 11" with OSX 10.7. After searching I tried this one. It seems to work things out:

What could make the Finder run slowly?

A slow Finder is not caused by the size of the disk, but by the size of the
Desktop file. The size of the Desktop file is not directly related to the
number of files it contains, but to the number of icons and file comments.

The number of icons is related to the number of applications. Slow
operation becomes a problem for hard disks with more than 50 applications.
The number of comments is a problem only for those who add a comment to
every file and folder. This is typical with public domain software. To
remove all comments, you can rebuild the Desktop file in one of two ways.

- You can delete the Desktop file in ResEdit.

- You can hold down the Command and Option (aka Alt) keys while you start up your
computer.

These operations remove the comments and speed things up appreciably.

Currently I don’t get why I am experiencing this error in Android. Hopefully when I study Android’s intricacies further then I will be able to understand the reason behind this error….

I found a similar case (actually there are a lot of cases where developers encounter this same if not related error in android development) of The specified Child already has a parent Error in developing Android applications. Here's another case of Specified child already has a parent.

Basically, you should call removeView from the parent View first before adding another Child View. Either that or consider designing your code in a different way.

Started on my journey on SEAM

Just 2 days ago I started reading SEAM in Action by Dan Allen. So far the journey is quite good. Reminds me of the times when I started reading about Ruby on Rails. I am impressed with Ruby on Rails, that's a fact. someday I might switch to becoming a Ruby on Rails programmer (at least when developing web applications that I think are of a small scale. meaning not enterprise level.). But right now I am so much invested in my pool of Java knowledge and experience. Aside from the fact that I still consider having Java as a tool for my creative output still a fun endeavor.

So now I am on my 3rd day of my initial journey to SEAM (version 2.0) and I can't hardly wait for the journey ahead. ciao!

Many people are interested on making money online nowadays but really only a few have actually earned as much that they can actually leave their current corporate jobs and be a full time internet entrepreneur (whether thru online selling, blogging, advertising, or whatever... the possibilities are actually only limited by your imagination and determination). But to really implement a bullet proof way for me to make these ideas a reality and actually earn from them... that's another story. Adding to this is will I earn as soon as possible as I need or want to earn online? This is the big question. And I found my answer on this year's e-commerce Summit.

Funny Experience re a Programming Book

I had just finished writing a code sample in a programming book about internationalization and then I load up my application to see the implementation but then it doesn't work! I tried turning the javascript on and off to see if it works but to no avail... I searched google for a similar problem.. it seems my current locale (EN) being reloaded and the locale Spanish (ES) is not... I spent a few good minutes searching for a solution... I was totally clueless why it was not working. I even replaced my source codes with the source codes that came with the programming book but to no avail!... then I decided to skip the internationalization part for a while and just take note of the i18n page... then I went on to progressing with the next page... then.. it turned out that the internationalization implementation was not yet finished on the previous page and I was lacking codes for the implementation to work! LOL!!!!

seems good, right? IMO it's really seems good upfront. The only downside (or worry) here is, will this make more people more "reckless" in their credit card purchases? How will this affect the credit card industry (or the banking industry) as a whole? Will it be likely that banks will now be more and more strict in lending? If banks will be at a disadvantage here won't it create more of a bigger problem for the big picture? Power to the people. Power to the people. for me, it's important to learn and be adept with other languages as well. I still love coding in Java and IMO it will stay for a long time especially on the enterprise. So no worries for us java developers out there. I think if you become an expert in Java enterprise especially in the future then the big bucks will be really there. But, it will certainly be fun and necessary to learn more effective languages that are newer and better designed for your problem domains. If not to stay fun coding but also to be sure you'll still be marketable. It also keeps the fire in you as a geek. lolz.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

I've been waiting for so long for this movie to come out ever since I saw a poster of it in SM months ago. When I finally saw it I can say that I like it :-) Maybe not as much as I like the first Wall Street but I can't really compare the two movies because the concept on my opinion is different enough to be compared.

The first movie for me is a coolness and sleazy type of story.
The 2nd movie is a cheesy redemption type of story. So there's really nothing to compare. Oliver Stone did a good job of emphasizing the difference of the wall street scenario back in the days and the current setting now. Of course, you can see that the office back in the first movie has all this CRT monitors and not much style. But in the 2nd movie you can see all these cool LCD monitors and the stylish office too. And also very importantly you can see the difference in the software used between the two movies.

Michael Douglas (then and now)
I think Michael Douglas did a great job of portraying the Gordon Gekko character not only in the first movie (w/c he won best actor) but also in the 2nd movie. He puts the bravado in the film. I'm not sure if I would have still watched the movie if it wasn't Michael Douglas in it. I love this man. I hope he recovers from throat cancer.

Charlie Sheen vs. Shia LaBeouf
Personally, I like Charlie Sheen better than Shia LaBeouf comparing the two wall street movie. Not just the character but how they played the character. Charlie Sheen gave more powerful expressions and delivery. Though I also like how Shia portrayed being a yuppie and i like how he portrayed a confident one.

I experienced some "buggy" things on Chrome when using yahoo mail. Like when I have opened a mail it does not change its color to being already read. It doesn't happen to me on Firefox. And sometimes when I already deleted a number of messages on my Inbox, when I open yahoo again the next time the deleted messages are there again!

Though I really like Chrome, especially the ability to enter search strings on the address bar is so cool. But IMO Firefox is way off more stable for now.

The Little Thing I can do

After researching and gathering the facts. I was filled with the urge to do something. Something on my own little way. I feel like this is the least I could do as a Filipino citizen. I've decided to photocopy yung mga nakalap kong facts (in summarized form of course with links to urls). Facts about noynoy aquino. Especially ung mga magagandang batas na nag-NO siya at nag-abstain (makikita dun sa batas na may conflict of interest sa kanya) like yung batas sa land rights ng farmers..
Ididistribute ko ito with note sa huli na i-photocopy din nila if they believe what's written there is true. kase di naman ako makakapag-pa-photocopy ng super dami hehehe. Balak ko din pumunta sa volunteers ng either Gibo or Gordon (di pa ko fully decided, mamya pag-uwi ko magdedecide na ako at makapagdecide na hopefully).

I feel like just voting for the right one is not enough especially when the worst one is yung nangunguna sa survey. I just can't let May 10 pass without me doing the least that I could do. I feel it is my responsbility. Especially now na the information is readily in our hands through the internet. I feel it is our responsibility to share the information to the uninformed or to those who don't have money to access the internet in long duration para magresearch. And to those who simply don't care to research.

I know na baka may makabangga ako sa gagawin ko. But I don't care, as long as alam kong tama ang ginagawa ko. After nila mabasa ang facts, at iboto pa rin nila si Noy.. well wala na kong magagawa dun. At least I can say to myself I did something and not just vote. At least nabigyan ko sila ng informed decision. Dahil obvious naman na ang boboto kay Noy ay walang informed decision at emosyon lang ang basehan. Itong strong emotion na ito ang pinakamahirap sa parteng ito.

It's just one week of sacrificing my energy and money and time. Compared to sacrificing my country's future for four years or more. Because the negative impact a bad governance will have on our country will not only last for 4 years but for more years to come.

Do I really think this would work? I am full of hope, I should not lose hope. we should not lose hope. If bawat bigyan ko ng photocopy ng facts ay ma-convince at bawat isa sa kanila ay ipa-photocopy din yun at yung bigyan nila ay iphotocopy din yun...

Mga rason kung bakit wag na wag mong iboboto si noynoy:
- kung walang corrupt. walang mahirap.
----- ang kahirapan ng tao (to some extent) ay hindi dahil sa gobyerno. I said to some extent. dahil syempre kung nasa somalia ka eh talagang mahirap. Wag mong kakalimutan na ang kahirapan ng kahit na sinong tao eh nasa kanyang palad. Pati ang pag-akyat nya sa tagumpay. Kung may 1% sa populasyon na nagawang yumaman o umahon man lang sa kahirapan at nasa iisang gobyerno sya tulad ng ibang nanatiling mahirap, patunay na yun. Katamaran ang ugat ng kahirapan (among other values). Wag mong kakalimutan na nagkaron ng gobyerno nuong una pang panahon dahil sa giyera-giyera. pang-proteksyon ang isa sa mga pangunahing dahilan ng pagkakaron ng gobyerno nuong unang panahon. Lot of Catching up to do on Java Certifications

I have just recently realized that I have a lot of catching up to do on taking java certifications. Not that it's absolutely necessary for my career or for my life goals. But I really want and enjoy taking certifications on java. It's fun learning. It give me self satisfaction.

Currently I am Sun Certified Java Programmer 5.0. I just realized that it's been 3 long years since I took this certification in July 2007. Right now, I am about to take my next certification (Sun Certified Web Component Developer 5.0) this 2010. So right now I really do feel a personal need on my part to catch up on my certifications on java. And I don't care what a number of zealots are saying about certifications (like it is useless, it cannot be used as a gauge on hiring, etc).

My next certification targets:

1. Sun Certified Business Component Developer 5.0

2. Sun Certified Web Services...

3. Sun Certified Java Developer...

4. Sun Certified Enterprise Architect

5. and finally, Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer

though I may just take Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer since I am targeting to especialize on mobile development with Android and iPhone.

Wetting my feet with OSGi

I have just began "wetting my feet" with the OSGi technology right now. I have heard the term about a year before but it was only now that it really is catching my attention. Thanks to infoQ's presentation c/o Neil Bartlett. He gives an excellent introductory presentation on the OSGi technology. I just want to have a basic understanding and working knowledge of OSGi and integrate it to my pet projects. I am not really planning to delve into its advance topics though.

Darn, can't open Visio file in IE

I've already installed visioviewer.exe (visio viewer 2007), I have also installed IE8, to no avail...

I'm now trying to Update my windows thru ISSIEZUpdate...

Still, to no avail.

I even tried Windows Updated on the Tools menu of IE8. Nothing. No Result.

I removed IE8... now downloading IE7.

I saw this thing in friendster and it makes me reflect upon my own turf.

If I've seen this quote a many months ago I would have agreed to want this for me. But.. Now, I think differently. I really do want to meet all kinds of people now and mingle with all kinds and try to see the good in all kinds of people but still being through to myself and still being able to protect myself assertively against people who try to take advantage of others and against suckers, assholes and the like. But I don't want to stay away from them anymore. I like to mingle nowadays and I would like to think I am continuously making the extra effort to do so. May the force be with me ;-)

My Cebu Experience

Here is where I stayed in Cebu for 2 weeks. (Somewhere there in The one in the red circle).

I left for Cebu March 1,2009 aboarding SuperFerry. The trip lasted for a whopping 24 hours. The trip's good since I wasn't in a hurry. It was my first time on a ferry trip to afar and I intend to enjoy the long trip. I honestly enjoyed it. Though at that time my smoking vice had not yet come again from the dead. It would have been enjoyable to smoke at the upper deck of the ferry watching the waves and feeling the strong winds whehehehehe.

It's good that I met a kind lady who after we reached Cebu (welcome Cebu!!! Yipee!!!) asked her taxi driver friend to help me find a nice place to rent. So within less than 30 minutes. I got a room for rent for only 1,800 a month =p

I went home to Manila on March 15 (or 14; can't really remember the exact date) aboard a Cebu Pacific airplane.

Iron Man 2 Coming Soon

I really like IronMan as a superhero character talaga, inline with two of my other faves Superman and Batman. Especially since nalaman ko na ang character pala ni Iron Man was inspired by real life billionaire Howard Hughes who is also an inspiration to me personally. They were both super billionaires and playboys and have passion for aviation/technology.

Trying to Quit Smoking Again

After having quit smoking for 3 years, I am now here again trying to (and will) quit smoking again... I have to. For my well being, my dreams, my loved ones... marami kayang umaasa sa akin. kawawa naman si jack kung mgkasakit ako dahil sa yosi... at pano na'ng mga dreams ko db? So, I really have to and want to quit smoking again for good again, probably 3 years or more uli...

I started na mag-5 hitit lang ng yosi in the past couple of days and then tinatapon ko na yung yosi. I don't care if nasasayang ang pera ko sa tingin ng ibang tao. for me, walang sayang na pera sa ganun. ang sayang is kung magkasakit ako dahil sa kawalan ng disiplina ko. Walang ibang dapat sisihin at responsable kundi ako sa pagtigil sa yosi.

Then, today nag-3 hitit lang ako ng yosi then tinatapon ko na,.. Kaya lang ay pag nasa work ako ay pumapalya ang 3 hits lang ng yosi then tapon.... nauubos ko ang yosi hanggang filter kapag nasa work ako eh... dala na rin ng stress, or pressure, or melancholy, or happiness, or a feeling of high for a job well done... basta may kaakibat na emosyon ang isang sitwasyon ay mas mataas (napakataas) ng chance na magyosi ako... Ito ang ititigil ko. I've done it before. I will and can do it once more.

Hihintayin ko pa ba ang first salary ko sa new company ko para huminto na sa yosi for good? Baka it would be too late... Imagine na lang kapag nagkasakit ako. Wala akong ibang ma-be-blame kundi sarili ko, then it will be too late. Hmm... kaya ko na kaya na before first-salary ay itigil ko na ang yosi for good?

Or ituloy ko na lang muna ang 3-hits-then-tapon strategy ko and hope and make more strong effort na hindi masira ang 3-hits strategy ko pag nasa work?....

Whatever it is, I will surely have and want to quit smoking for good again. This is a prerequisite for me to be the best that I can be. Then itutuloy ko na uli ang workouts ko na naudlot na for almost 2 months na.

May the force be with me with my quitting of smoking for good again.

Me and the Golden Alarm Clock

I was really lucky to have found the best possibly perfect alarm clock for me. The Golden Alarm clock. It was the biggest of the alarm clocks that I've canvassed about and it has the loudest alarm. It's alarm comes from the bells and it measures about 5 inches in diameter. Most alarm clocks that I had canvassed are made of plastics but this golden treasure is made of gold plated metal or some kind of heavy stuff material. Consequently due to this very good buy, I canvassed for more like it but found none since the once I bought is already the last stock in SM San Lazaro Appliance Center. I'm really lucky. Though I didn't find one exactly, I found a nice smaller version of it and I also bought it. Since I really need two alarm clocks for me to wake up sometimes, though sometimes I would wake up before the alarm set off or sometimes I wake up with only one alarm setting off. The bigger alarm clock cost 250++ pesos while the smaller one cost 150++ pesos.

* I'd said before that I'm not a gadgets guy and that I don't really care much about high-tech mobile phones. But... my choice is not a mobile phone but a smart phone hehe ;-) No, seriously, it's because I'm targeting to develop apps in smart phones. the IBM laptop is a necessity for me as a programmer. and the Kindle 2 is also a necessity for someone like me who not only is a book lover but reading and learning is also essential in my field. So there it goes, I've justified that I'm not really a gadgets person. I won't buy a gadget just because it's the coolest thing, I buy out of necessity :-)

The Alam Clock and Me

Me and my many alarm clock are best friends.
I can't live without them. I need them desperately.
They're one of my keys to success.
Choosing one can be tricky.
I have to be really careful and pick reliable ones.
You have to have criterias, man. Like:
- ability to play music files (mp3, ogg, etc)
- ability to queue up alarms
- ability to automatically start the app when your box starts
- ability to set run once, daily, weekly, etc.
- ability to repeatedly play sound until you choose to stop it

So far these are my best friends...

1. Atomic Alarm Clock

Aside from covering all of the criteria that I mentioned above this baby also can wake up PC from standy or hibernate mode.
This is simply my best fave among the rest. I'm just not sure yet if I can have it limitlessly on my box since it's shareware. I hope it doesn't stop working after 30 days... I will surely miss the user interface. The best.

2. Computer Alarm Clock by Tarsoft software
Computer Alarm Clock also manage to cover all of the criteria. But the unregistered version can only queue up to 2 alarms. And since I'm not yet ready to purchase a registered one online and I don't have the plastic yet, I'm sticking with this one. One of the bonus of this alarm is you can set hourly chimes for hourly or every half an hour or so that will play. It's handy when you want to be reminded of the time every now and then.

3. Alarm by David De Groot
Ok, this baby doesn't cut out all the criteria but I like it since it's lightweight.
- ability to play music files (mp3, ogg, etc) . Check
- ability to queue up alarms. Doesn't Support
- ability to automatically start the app when your box starts. Doesn't Support. But can be done.
- ability to set run once, daily, weekly, etc. Doesn't Support
- ability to repeatedly play sound until you choose to stop it. Check.

With this app, what I do is launch multiple instances (this can be done if you had installed multiple instances too).

Ever since I returned from Cebu on March 15, 2009 I am continually smoking again... tsk tsk... I started smoking again in Cebu.. then continued it here in Manila.. I thought I could stop as I return from Manila, but with the instability that I am facing with my career situation recently I wasn't able to stop. But I WILL stop the moment I get my first pay on my new company... I WILL stop smoking again. that I know I WILL. then I'll continue to regularly workout again... but I will make sure that my workouts this time will not interfere with my work in my employer.

Whew... Uhm.. It will be hard to admit this one, admitting that something's a wrong with one's self. A disease or a misorder. But, the thing is,.. I used to have a delusions of grandeur. I had this burning desire to set my goals up so high in an impossibly amount of time. I had an inkling to be the best that I can be. Nothing less. Well, at least I'm happy that I didn't had the need to be the best among others. Just the best that I can be.. Until I became too hard on myself. forget/regret to actually smell the flowers they say. But now, thank "god-universe", I'm back to reality, and (hopefully) my good grasp of it and perspective will remain with me for all eternity. Now, I know I have to really live. enjoy life. Touch lives. Inspire myself and hopefully others. Laugh. Be fool at times. Play. blah blah.

I have now a clear picture of what my life is what I want: I want to be a java programmer na, that I'm sure.. in the future probably as a hobby na lang. I also also want as ever to be an entrepreneur. Something, something, I have ideas. Many. hmm... Yun lang. In between, just enjoy my life with the peeps in my life.

Adolix Split and Merge PDF

A sweetheart. I was able to merge the whole W3C tutorials page by page into one pdf. A caveat though is it has several empty pages generated, but all-in-all this software is cool enough for my needs.

I converted all of the W3c tutorials of w3c pages into pdf first by using
http://html-pdf-converter.com which is also equally a baby. Then I merged all of the pdfs together in their proper order. One caveat though is you can only merge 5 pdfs at a time. But I can live with it for now. =). Now I have the W3C XML Tutorial into a pdf file. niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!

The case with being an expert on one thing vs. being a jack of all trades

with regards to being a software engineer, i would say that being an "expert"
or at least to be able to really have an in-depth above average knowledge/experience/skill
on a specific domain/context is a must. For example, one could be an expert developing
on banking enterprise web applications using java. Expertise or at least an in-depth above
average skill would be necessary for a good software engineer to be able to deliver with
flying colors. Otherwise, the product would not be as good. This is whether one is working
with a team or not. On the other hand developing an enterprise web application using java
would require other skills as well like database, connection and object pooling, sometimes
LDAP, web services, etc. Whether the software engineer is working with a team or not
and whether these different skill requirements are delegated to others, still the software
engineer would do him his own good if he at least knows a basic average knowledge for the
different skill requirements (jack of all trades). It is important to point out that IMO
it would be best to have these basic average knowledge skills wherein these skills are
connected to the expertise that the engineer is delving himself into.

My Favorite Hacking/Programming Movies

First, my criteria is simple: entertainment value in particular to the technologically inclined, inspirational value for the technologically inclined, and plot.

1. Anti-trust. I like the plot. it's inspirational for me especially since Milo uses java here.
2. The Matrix. Especially now after finding out that Trinity's hack was the closest real life hack in a movie.
3. Swordfish. Entertaining. Inspirational for me was the part where the hacker in the first part of the movie was going to the airport with his laptop. I like the idea of a programmer going to places.
4. Take Down. I like the plot. I like the character.
5. Die Hard 4. I like the plot. The geekiness of the programmer character. I like the part where the character's apartment was shown. With all the action figures he has and his computer setup, a true geek.
6. Sneakers. I like the plot. Suspenseful.
7. The Net. I love the plot. I love the setup.

Java Server Faces in Action by Kito Mann is in my exclusive humble opinion is one of the most terrible programming book I have browsed upon. I didn't care long to read it intently. IMO, the discussion is scattered in a haphazard way that confuses the reader. The direction lacks goal. It looks like a combination of different articles on the different topics on JSF that were put together to make a book. I didn't even see a clear and concise discussion on Backing Beans which is most important in developing web applications with JSF. And the book is 1000 plus pages! Amf! To think that I have read a good book about JSF (I forgot the title) that is really good and fewer pages.

Why I would always love Eclipse over Netbeans

This is because when it comes to IDEs I will always choose the one that provides me with the best productivity but will least get in my way of software development. Netbeans, although RAD (I think it's too much RAD and FAD though) with its multitude of auto-generation and wizardry just gets in my way because it produces artifacts and codes that are not standards. In other words, it creates files that are netbeans specific. Like if you use the Visual drag and drop for its Java Server Faces, I doubt if anyone have actually used it on production projects. I hate it. Eclipse forever. Heheh.

I am (unofficially) delving into the Android world now. exciting. simply exciting for me. I will be targeting mobile development now as my primary development skill. After web development, mobile development is now (unofficially) my thing. I need a new Laptop!

I will surely now very much need and want a new laptop. The current computer that I'm using right now which is a desktop is a sure pain in the a**. It fails to detect my usb WD Elements 160 GB of external drive. It was able to detect my Vivitar DVR710 digicam but within less a minute of detecting it, the damn computer restarts. I know this has got something to do with the power of my behated AMD computer. Damn. plain and simple. In addition to these sH#$%t, the cursed computer has a RAM that when held in too tight to the slot will not work! Double damn.

I really wish now I could get my hands on my dream laptop. No I am not wishing. I am targeting. My target now of primary importance of purchase is my everdearest dream of laptop of model IBM Thinkpad 14 inch wide screen with 4 GB of RAM, core 2 duo, a video card that could very well play my favorite games (like Code of Duty 2). this laptop i'm targeting should also have the wi-fi, bluetooth, and a 160gb of hdd or more. I can't wait to get my hands full on this beast. Heheh. I will get it. Promise to myself. I will not settle for anything less anymore, like the MSI that I bought.

The True Essence of Success

Someone sent this message to me... I think it's quoted from the Bible... well, I don't believe in this saying.
Why?
Well, of course at a first glance and at the superficial level this seems to be true... and this is actually true for most people. Most people in reality and in fact strive for success because of the driving force of envy and jealousy... But, there's also this quote that says "Success is a personal standard. Reaching for the best of what we can be."... and this I believe, is the true essence of success.
Personal standard. Meaning, one don't seek his standards of success on other people. So one doesn't think "My neighbors are rich that's why I am driven to be rich. I also want to be successful."... True success is not measured with the successes of others.
That is why if we look at the truely successful men in history, they have chosen and followed their own path. Their own vision. Their own standard.
I do believe though that psychologically speaking, the drive for success is also the drive to be of significance. But not of envy and jealousy. Remember, true success.

The Case of Getting Abs

Right now I've completely and radically lessened my rice intake.. lunch -- i only eat vegetables most of the time from Bodhi, a vegetarian health food fast food outlet, it's great. their dishes are simply great and delicious. not to mention very healthy, which is very appropriate for me. I only eat less than half of the rice serving. eat like only 1/4 or less of it sometimes. Then in the evening, or sometimes morning i do ab exercises. Currently I've been doing basic crunches, modified crunches, bicycle crunches, double crunches, leg pushes, leg raises, squatting, push-ups with feet raised (for my chest muscle). I know I've been getting results already since i started this program of mine 3 months ago (January 2008), the mirror tells me. but i'm like far from my goal yet. i mean, it's a long journey for me to achieve my dream physique. but it's ok. patience is virtue, not to mention commitment (not obsession, which is a totally different thing with goals)... besides, this is my lifestyle now. when i have achieved my physique goal i will still do these exercises and diet habit of mine. So, good luck to me! I'm enjoying this journey in part of my life right now indeed.

Freedom in the Rain

When was the last time you get yourself absolutely wet in the rain?... As in you made the heavy rain drops your shower?.... Hmmm… If I’m guessing you right,… probably when you were still a child… or maybe not at all. What? You have never tried showering in the rain? My my, tsk, tsk… you’re missing out, hmmm… 1/8 of your life… What?!! (you’ll say) I miss that much just for not dancing out in stupid rain??.... Haha, yeah, (I’d say)… If you’re the child-like, adventurous, (pasaway) type of in a cute-way guy or gal hehe…..

You see, dancing in the rain or simply showering in the rain signifies many things (at least for me)…. Just the feeling of being able to do fun things (by the way, fun is a relative word, haha) that you used to do as a kid back then… the feeling of freedom (freedom from what?!), of sheer nature-ly-ness of the act (nature-ly-ness?? What the!)….. not to mention the purity of high-ness that you (actually, me) will feel…. It’s just so close to synonymously ripping your corporate-doggy clothes while running outside your prison-like office and then jumping out of the real (as in real) world!! With your adventurous swimming trunks and then saying halleluiah! I’m free!!!..... (ah-hah, I just saw some similar commercial like this one, hmmm…..).

Well, haha what the heck… whatever I’m yapping about here will just be stupid and nonsense to you man, that is if you’re not the child-like, adventurous, (pasaway) type of in a cute-way guy or gal, hehe….. try it man, you’re life may not be complete after… but it sure will affect your insight of life in a good way =) …. Like a good ol’ cold you’ll be-a-having ;-) (but I have never caught a cold by showering in the rain ;-) )

"Help". It Seemed for Most Filipino Masses

I’ve written this blog because of my observation on how the Filipino “masses” have viewed the word “help”. In particular, “help” from the government and politicians who have hidden agendas when “helping”. I’ve come to the conclusion that most Filipino “masses” have equated real “help” with receiving sacks of rice from politicians. Giving canned foods to them by politicians, they view these acts of “kindness” as real help and thus they vote for these politicians believing that these politicians will save them from poverty. This is the truth in the Philippines, and these they haven’t really have any “platapormas” for the real development and the real “long lasting help”. The masses should always bear in mind that real help by the government is not the “alms” that they give. This only makes people dependent to the government and to other people. That is why pinoys are so good with “pakikisama” because unconsciously or subconsciously or consciously they depend on others for “approval”, “financial help”, “promotion” and others. The government is taking this to their advantage, so they just give “alms” especially on election days, without having focus on community services that will really help the “masses” in the long run. Community services that include seminars for the “masses” with livelihood programs, personal development programs and the like so that Filipinos will learn to depend on themselves before depending on others. Of course, these programs are already existing in the Philippines, but they are not given the primary focus that they deserve because the government is busy making “pa-pogi” by giving “alms” which are “better” and easily appreciated by the “masses”. The media is also to blame here. I will not expand why the media is the one very big factory to blame here, t.v. watchers. Many Filipinos will surely raise some eyebrows with this blog. Saying who am I to say these things, well I am a nobody. I am even included in the “masses”. But my beliefs are different. And I am not saying that my beliefs are the ones that are right and the common “masses” are the wrong ones. But I watch less t.v. and I am currently planning of giving free seminars about technology to public school students. Then afterwards giving free seminars on other more useful things that I know of that can be of use by the common masses.

P.S. don’t get me wrong with the alms, I am not saying that the government shouldn’t give “alms” of help, they should especially during calamities, tragedies, etc. You get the drift, I hope.

SCJP Experience

finally, i am now a Sun Certified Java Programmer for Java SE 5.0. Whew! I can't describe the satisfaction and happiness and added self-confidence that i had after seeing that i passed the exam.

Surely, this is a big career opportunity for me in advancement. Probably, i could now have stronger ground to ask for a raise hehe.. (probably a double! hehe!!)… modesty aside though, I personally believe (and the general others as well !!) that I had contributed greatly in our current project (which I arbitrarily chose to be classified info in this blog. Tee-Hee =)).. Anyways, the project is built on EJB 3 and JSF technology and the app server is GlassFish… Now, back to my being certified as a Java Programmer 5.0, I had a blast with the experience. the exam took place at IETI in Guadalupe.. the exam consisted of 72 questions wherein I got 52 correct ones (not bad =)).. the exam Sun provided is cool (multiple answers thru checkboxes, one answer with radio buttons, and the cool drag and drop questions)…. I am planning to implement this drag and drop thing on my own personal online exam project, btw…. They also have this mark thing.. wherein you can mark a question if you’re not sure you have it covered 100% correctly and then you can get back to it after the you have finished all of the questions because Sun provides a list of all the questions in one window with the marked questions well, marked… cool isn’t it =)…. the exam is also timed…. One piece of advice though, study with 2 two three books if you want to be sure of passing the exam… The Sybex Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide is good (covers a lot of ground)… this is the book that I reviewed and solely the only book that I reviewed for the Java 5.0 exam… which gave me unnecessary hard time with some of the questions in the exam… well, it covers a lot but not all… It will still be imperative for you to review other good Java certification books like the McGraw-Hill book (which I heard, is the best certification book, like you could probably just read this as your one and only certification book and you’d ace the exam), and perhaps a Java 5.0 book like Wrox professional Java jdk 5… and more importantly, search the web for sample mock exams for Java 5.0… you’ll need and want lots of these stuff man… and of course, take down important notes… and code the questions and essentially run them and play with the codes okei =)… with these, it would be virtually impossible for you to fail the exam… and of course, don’t forget to pray man he-he… lastly, me I formally reviewed for the certification for approximately less than a one month period… which is bad, but what gave me extra push is my actual experience in programming in the Java 5.0 language… but of course the peculiarities and tricky parts of the questions are the ones to watch out for =)
